Pick Up The Pace

5 things I do to get swimsuit ready

1. The food on your counter tops has direct correlation to the number on your scale. I get rid of cookies, chips, cereals and only keep fresh fruits & vegetables. Studies show a 5lb difference in weight with people that keep healthy foods visible. Store your kid’s treats and goldfish crackers somewhere out of sight. If you are anything like me the goldfish crackers can be real dangerous at 10pm.

2. Drink water ALL day long. Did you know that we mistake hunger for thirst? If you drink water all day you will be more satisfied and less likely to snack on foods you shouldn’t be eating. I’m new at this. I have a really hard time with water. Baby steps you guys! But I have already seen a huge difference this month. Your skin will thank you too.

3. Stay busy. Did you know boredom increases weight gain? Keep a schedule everyday that incorporates physical activity with friends and family. Run errands and choose to walk if you can. Keep your meals structured and fresh. Get your to-do list out and get as many things crossed off your list as possible. I promise it helps to be a busy bee!

4. Sign up at your gym for a training session or two. This is so motivating. Discussing your goals with someone will push you to the next level. I do cardio everyday or interval training for 60 minutes.

5. I don’t eat processed foods at all before a trip. I stay completely away from it. I eat lots of protein, veggies and fruit. I also love green juice.

5 things to do to stay fit on vacation

1. I never eat at buffet style restaurants. Never ever. Those can ruin your healthy streak in seconds!

2. I love treats on vacation so I make sure I keep my workouts going. I get up and do my 60 minute workout first thing. I search the city I’m in for fun classes or cool running trails. For example – Flywheel, BarreClasses, Barry’s Bootcamp, Soulcycle. I make sure to walk as much as possible, to take advantage of swimming in pool and checking out the local hikes. It’s really easy once you change your mind set.

3. Portion control. I promise this works. Order what you really want but just eat until you are comfortable. Don’t over eat. I also like to split and share meals. This way I feel like I get to try more foods. I order fish a lot. I stay away from creamy and butter based dishes. I hide snacks in the mini bar and replace them with healthy options. Because if I don’t I’m looking for those peanut M&M’s at midnight.

4. No matter who you vacation with there are always ways to incorporate physical activity.Rent bikes or bring footballs, frisbees, volleyball. Really anything.Play tag with your family on the beach. Every 30 minutes of activity frees up calories for dessert that night. Plus the more active you are the more fun your kids will think you are. It’s a win win. 🙂

5. I make sure my PLAYLISTS on my phone are new and ready. I look forward to listening to my music while sweating it out. It’s therapeutic to me.

I hope this helps you get motivated for swimsuit season. It’s also so much more fun to do with a buddy. Make a competition out of it. There are so many fitness apps you can use.  Thank goodness it’s summer!

xx

    • I do interval training with weights and cardio or I get on treadmill and do interval running for an hour. I also do stair climber a couple times a week.
