waxing tips

Have you heard of Completely Bare? Cindy Barshop (former Real Housewife of NYC)  is the founder of this incredible spa & wax line. She created an at home wax product line to make waxing a little easier for all of us! And if you don’t live in NYC you can order all of her products online or head to your local drugstore, CVS.

Cindy is a mother of 2 and knows what a hectic schedule is like. As busy moms we always look for professional, efficient, and safe  products. Completely Bare products definitely fit in this category.

Waxing and laser hair removal are constant topics among girls & women of all ages. Whether it’s the eyebrow, upper lip, armpit or bikini area, many women choose to wax or laser for longer-lasting hair removal. For those who’ve never done it (or who’ve done it once and had a bad experience), it can seem very scary. If you are thinking about giving hair removal a try here are a few tips that I hope will make you feel a little bit better.
Waxing
1. How to prepare for a wax treatment-

When waxing any given area the hair needs to be at least the length of an eyelash. When waxing your underarms use a deodorant without antiperspirant. It will come off much easier before the wax. I also like to wear a tank top when waxing my underarms so I don’t have to get into a spa gown.
2. How to manage the pain-
If you are worried about the pain during a wax, take one or two Advil before the appointment. Also you can buy Completely Bare’s numbing & cooling spray called NOT FEELING IT. This product has 4.00% Lidocaine. This will cool and numb the skin. Only apply it to the area being waxed.  This can be applied 15 minutes before your wax. Also, find a spa or office that uses ouchless cream wax. Honey wax tends to hurt more.  Remember that the pain during a wax session only lasts for a few moments. It hurts because the hair root is being completely pulled out. Waxing hurts the most the week before your period. The best time to wax is the week after your period.
3. How long do results last –
Depending on your hair re-growth, the results can last between 3 to 6 weeks. Continued waxing can result in reduced hair growth.
4. What areas of the body can be waxed-
Wax can be used everywhere! Frequently waxed areas for women include legs, arms, underarms, bikini, brazilian, eyebrows, and face. Men tend to wax chest, legs, arms, back, and shoulders.
5. How to take care of your wax the first 24 hours-
The area waxed will be a little sensitive for the first 24hours. Do not use any scrubs and do not expose  the area to the sun. Use hydro cortisone cream to treat redness or swelling.
6. Bikini vs. Brazilian –
This is the most common question I get asked about. Here is the scoop. A bikini wax focuses on the sides. (where a swimsuit would be) A Brazilian wax involves taking all the hair off. Yep, all the hair. This is where the numbing cream comes in handy because it hurts. Many women do this so they don’t have to worry about any hair peeking out. Especially during swim suit season.
7. In Grown Hairs –
I have the best product for ingrown hairs.  BB Blaster will become your best friend. Look it up here. This will tackle any ingrown hairs in any area. Use one pad to wipe the area with ingrowns. The salicylic acid will prevent them fro growing in.

Laser Hair Removal
1. Will it work for me-
Yes! Completely Bare offers 3 different types of lasers. Every skin type and hair color can be treated. If you don’t live in the NY area look up this laser – Candella Alexandrite. I LOVE this laser! If you have any doubt about whether you are a good candidate for laser most spas and laser clinics offer free consultations.
2. Does it hurt –
Trust me, this hurts way less than a wax treatment. Of course certain areas tend to be more sensitive than others but every person is different. I am quite a baby when it comes to pain. The laser at Completely Bare is called t
he Candella Alexandrite. After each laser pulse the laser shoots out a cooling burst of cryogen. This combination makes the laser treatment feel like a walk in the park. I’m so excited that laser hair removal can be effective and almost pain free.
3. Should I wax or laser-

If your hair is coarse and you are prone to ingrown hairs you should definitely laser. It will be way better in the long run. Laser on any body part is the best solution if it affects your every day life. It’s just a good feeling to wake up in the morning and not have to shave. Lasers have come a long way. Now that we have access to lasers that are almost pain free and offer amazing results we would be crazy not to.
4. How to prepare for a laser-
You need to come to your laser treatment with the area completely shaved. Do not have sun exposure or previous waxing for 6 weeks before treatment.

1. Numbing cream for laser treatments.
2. Home kit with ouchless wax. Great for eyebrows and bikini area.
3. Bump Blaster is awesome. Apply anywhere that you may get ingrown hairs.
