The first time I walked in I was so impressed with the variety of brands including Tigerlily, Cleobella, Flynn Skye, BB Dakota, etc. The amount of amazing jewelry blew my mind. Owner Danya Mance is just as lovely as the boutique she created! This new mom is not only fashion forward but has created a store environment that makes you feel right at home. Give us a little background on you:

I grew up in San Diego and am the oldest of four kids in our family. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Communications and worked in retail most of my life. I got married in Big Sur in 2012 and had the bohemian wedding of my dreams. I currently live in Long Beach with my husband, our beagle and we just had our first daughter, Indigo Roux on April 9. Family, friends and fashion are what keep me going.

Tell us how Prism came to be:

Ever since I was a little girl I loved clothes and always knew I wanted to have a store of my own. I worked for Urban Outfitters Inc and Anthropologie for ten years, learned a great deal in my experience there, met the most amazing people. But I had a burning desire to work for myself and pursue the dream I always had, especially before my husband and I started a family. I felt I had to take a risk like this before we had kids, and if I didn’t do it now, that I may never get the chance. Going out on my own was the best decision I ever made, although it wasn’t easy. The response to my store has been overwhelming and women come from near and far to shop. I feel like women are craving fashion that isn’t cookie cutter-from the mall-and want to support smaller designers and stores. I love having my own business’s and I can’t believe my job is picking out all the cute clothes and making women happy! It’s SO fun. I have a great team working with me and I couldn’t be happier.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning?

Stare at my beautiful baby girl and give her a kiss…she’s so sweet and sleepy in the morning. Then head to the kitchen to make some English breakfast tea.

Favorite snack?

I am addicted to fruit..strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, you name it. Especially in the summertime when they are so divine and I can stock up for the week at the farmers market.

What is you’re number one beauty item?

Oh man, this is a hard one. I use all L’Occitane products but right now I’m currently obsessing over Laura Mercier almond coconut milk soufflé body creme. I also can’t live without a good beach spray for my hair.

Describe your style:

Well, I like to push the boundaries a little bit but also comfort is really important to me. I’d describe it as bohemian and fashion forward. You’ll usually find me in a beautiful kimono, flowy maxi dress or wild printed pants. With tons of amazing jewelry of course.

What has surprised you most about motherhood?

I’ve only been a mom for a short time, but I will say I’m surprised how each day is different from the next..with new challenges and new moments of joy. I also didn’t know how happy it would make me to see my husband with my daughter. He’s so gentle and patient with her, it makes me tear up just thinking about it.

Favorite way to stay fit:

I like to be outside..walking and jogging. And yoga, it’s so good for the body and spirit.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

That I can’t cook! You would think I could with how much I love good food, but my skills in the kitchen aren’t where they should be. It’s something for me to work onl

Most embarrassing moment:

I recently received the honor of winning a rising star entrepreneur award from the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. There was a huge luncheon and award ceremony at the Hyatt where they presented three awards and I was one of them. I was the first to be called on stage and as I accepted the award, they invited me to come to the microphone to speak. Gasp. I had no idea I should have had something prepared so just said a brief thank you. The next recipients had eloquent speeches of acceptance..I was so horrified that I didn’t. Oops!

What makes you laugh the most?

My closest girlfriends. Our dinners out (or in) with just the ladies, a few bottles of wine and some good laughs make me so happy. Girl time is so important!
