heart sticks

Two years ago the kids and I woke up to a fun surprise.  My husband had brainstormed the idea to cut out several hearts, tape them to sticks and scatter them around the front lawn to wish us a Happy Valentines Day.  It was a huge hit!  The kids loved it and our house became quite the attraction that day for neighbors and others driving by.

Years later we have continued doing this with different shapes to surprise friends, family and neighbors for holidays or special occasions.  We have cut out anything from shamrocks to mustaches. I am the least crafty person and I appreciate that these are so easy!   All you need...

1-3 packages of shish kabob sticks (depending on how many you want to do)
1 roll of duct tape
card stock
scissors
markers
We usually make one or two samples and use those to trace for all the rest.
The kids love the whole process but especially sticking them into the ground. Sometimes they aren't as pretty as I would like for them to be but they come from the heart and that's all that matters.
XOXO

  3. I can't believe a man thought of that! Such a cute idea! We have a tradition in our family that I'd like to share. The first Monday of February, we cut out hearts and everyone has to write one thing they love about each person in our family on the hearts. Then I hang them on our kitchen cupboards for the whole month. I have a small box of ziploc bags that have the hearts from past years. It's one of my favorite traditions, and it's especially fun to pull out hearts from other years and look at the kids handwriting and the funny things they have said.
